Tornado Relief

Saturday, April 16, 2011 will long be remembered by Wilson residents and many others throughout eastern and central North Carolina. Reminiscent of the March 1984 tornadoes that ravaged the area, our hearts are saddened that precious lives have been lost and that many families are now homeless. We continue to pray for those whose lives have been altered forever ... believing that our God will heal and restore.

Not immune to the havoc wreaked by this storm, our own Bartlett family has been affected. The photo to the left shows what remains of Exclusive Cleaners, owned by Robert Bartlett's wife, Joan, and her family. As Joan noted, "It took nine months to build it and 2 minutes to destroy it." More importantly, they are grateful that their employees were spared. The two-story, brick veneer building has been declared a total loss.

As we all continue to sort through the aftermath of the tornadoes, the staff of Bartlett Engineering wants to extend a helping hand to those in need. Please let us know if there is anything we can do ... if we're not able, we will do our best to find someone who can. In keeping with our company mission and core values, we truly want to serve and give back to our community.

With a humble dependence on our Lord, we can, together, do our best to turn this tragedy into triumph.

Robert Bartlett Licensed in Virginia

On several occasions, our clients (and potential clients) have asked us to provide engineering and/or surveying services for their interests in the State of Virginia. For the past few months, we have been working through the extensive application process and are excited to announce that Robert Bartlett, our President, has received licensing as a Professional Engineer in the State of Virginia, effective December 16, 2009.

With the engineering side taken care of, we are now in the midst of securing licensure for Tony Bartlett, our Vice President, as a Professional Land Surveyor in the State of Virginia. Before the Summer of 2010 arrives, Bartlett Engineering expects to offer full-service engineering and surveying solutions for our clients doing business in the Old Dominion State!

Weathering the Storm

Our friends in Washington, D.C. and other parts of the mid-Atlantic may be pondering this thought at the very moment after receiving 50 inches of snow in the past couple of weeks! But the storm we're referring to is not what brings the fluffy, white stuff ... it is the economic storm that we all have suffered through in the last year.

At Bartlett Engineering, we have survived ... sometimes even thrived ... in this storm. Yes, we have had to be very prudent in cutting costs and managing our resources, but more importantly (and the real reason for our success), we continue to commit our business unto God.

The current economic situation has taught us to become a much more lean organization ... and when the economy does finally turn the corner, and as we remain focused and disciplined, Bartlett Engineering will be in a much better position to continue our growth pattern of recent years, increasing our footprint in North Carolina.

Robert Bartlett, President of Bartlett Engineering and Co-Owner of Signs Now, has secured the property located at 2000 Nash Street for the new location of Signs Now. The move from their previous Forest Hills Road location was completed on January 1, 2010.

Chad Pomeroy Earns CFS Designation

We are excited to announce that Chad Pomeroy, a licensed Professional Land Surveyor, has recently earned the distinguished title of Certified Floodplain Surveyor (CFS). Very few surveyors in the United States are able to claim this designation. Chad is now capable of processing certain Letters of Map Changes (LOMC's) to remove structures or property from flood hazard areas and receive a fast-tracked determination from FEMA within 5 business days rather than the normal 60 day processing period.

Chad began employment with Bartlett Engineering in May 2004 and currently serves as our Survey Manager. Prior to attending college ang beginning his career in surveying, Chad served our country for six years in the United States Air Force. He and his wife Stephanie reside in Bailey, North Carolina.

In order to provide our clients with the highest level of service, Bartlett Engineering actively encourages and assists our staff members in their professional development. We are proud of Chad and his accomplishments.

Bartlett is Going Green

In step with a world that is increasingly aware of protecting its environment, Bartlett Engineering is committed to providing "green" engineering designs. Knowing that actions speak louder than words, Robert Bartlett has begun the process of obtaining LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) professional accreditation through the U.S. Green Building Council. Robert recently attended the LEED workshop at N.C. State University and is now studying for the exam he will take later this year.
